A GUIDE TO IMPLIMENTING AND MANAGING AN EFFECTIVE SAFETY PROGRAM IN YOUR WORKPLACE
STRATEGY # 8 Medical Treatment & Return to Work
Stay commited to returning your injured workers to productive employement as soon as safely possible. Develop a Return to Work Statement that each employee will sign. This will ensure the employees understand your level of commitment to their safety and health.
Strategies to ensure that injured workers return to work as soon as medically possible:
- Provide employees with the contact information for your Managed Care Organization (MCO)
- Develop policies and procedures for what to do in case of an accident. All employees must understand and follow these policies and procedures.
- Investigate all accidents within 24 hours.
- Keep accurate and thorough records of all accidents.
- Always remain in consistant contact with injured workers.
- Develop a transitional work program when necessary.
A transitional work program uses real job duties for a specified time period to gradually return the injured worker ot the worker's original job.
